In an interview published on 19 July 2026, Nando Bodha said the country was going through a crisis of leadership and that a genuine change of course was needed.
Aiming higher
He proposed a strategy called the "One Trillion Rupee Economy": growing the Mauritian economy to one trillion rupees within five years through an innovative economy and the emergence of new sectors. A month earlier, he had judged that the 2026-2027 Budget allowed for no real change.
Pensions, a question of fairness
He called for national consultation on pension reform and for the retirement age to return to 60.
Uniting the opposition
On 9 July he had already argued for a broad coming-together of opposition forces. He said he was ready to take part in discussions should a common platform be built around these principles. Talks with Paul Bérenger, who stepped down as Deputy Prime Minister in March 2026, would be confirmed on 22 September 2026.
